Modern culture has discipled women to believe freedom is found in rejecting God’s design. Scripture teaches the opposite.
In this episode, we’re asking one question: Who defines womanhood- culture or Christ? We’ll explore how competing worldviews have shaped marriage, why God’s design isn’t oppressive but protective, and why Christian wives cannot build flourishing marriages on a foundation that contradicts God’s Word. God’s design has always been for our good, our freedom, and His glory.

Welcome back to the High Level Wife Podcast. I'm Chelsea Holm, your hostess, and we do marriage God's way here. And today I'm going to offend some people. And I'd rather offend someone in truth than comfort them into deception because heaven knows, we do enough work of deceiving ourselves. So here's the conviction that I'm bringing you today. You cannot build a biblical marriage on a worldview that rejects God's design. Somewhere along the way, many Christian wives have been discipled more by culture than by scripture and it's crushing marriages. And if you are an older wife listening to this podcast, know that you are charged with teaching and leading the younger wives and how to love their husbands and to work at home. Go to Titus 2. It's giving you a command. So if you're not doing that today, this is your call and your challenge to do that. Find someone, find a woman you can pour life into and disciple her according to a biblical worldview. Understand that this is not political. Okay. It's not about Republicans or Democrats or women's rights or whether women are intelligent and gifted or capable. This is about authority. Who defines womanhood? God or culture? And our culture in the last several, I don't even know how many decades now, has had it out. And it's not even culture, it's the driving force behind the culture. You need to understand that Satan's mission is to take as many of God's children with him to hell. Hell was made for him, it wasn't made for you, it was made for him, and he is hell-bent on taking as many of us with him as he can. Okay. He is the force behind the culture of feminism that is not biblical. Feminism is anti-biblical. And it it poses as protecting women and loving women while backhandedly destroying women. And you are probably experiencing that today, right? The culture that said you're you're as good as or better than a man, and you can do what a man can, right? We've got it from songs. Anything you can do, I can do better, I can do anything better than you, right? It's a man versus a woman. Um in women leaving the home because the home was oppressive and they needed to go out into the world and get a job. And now we have women that are crushed in their careers and wanting to get home because it put more burden on them, not took it away like it promised. Do you see? Do you see Satan's attacks? Genesis 3. This is the first temptation, right? The serpent didn't begin by attacking marriage. He attacked God's authority. He said, Did God really say? And every generation answers that question. The question today is exactly the same. Did God really say? Husbands are to lovingly lead, wives are to submit as unto the Lord. Men and women are different by design, or as culture become our authority. I am sad to say that for the majority, culture has become the authority. And while you not may not be able to name it yet, and culture as a whole may not be able to name it, we are here to name it and to call it out and to call us back to God's design. Because Satan's strategy, it doesn't create something completely new. Satan can't create, he twists what God creates, he counterfeits, and it always looks close enough to deceive, unless we know what the authentic looks like. It's the only way to recognize the counterfeit, is if you, without a shadow of a doubt, know what the original looks like. The enemy doesn't have to get you to reject reject all of scripture, just enough of it. So there's a fruit test, all right? Jesus said, You will know them by their fruit. Ask yourself, what fruit are we seeing? What are you seeing in yourself? What is the fruit in your life? Is it anxiety, burnout, constant striving, competition instead of partnership, contempt between men and women, fatherlessness, confusion, loneliness, women carrying everything, men withdrawing? Something isn't working. Are any of these fruits that are evidenced in your life? Understand, this isn't God's design. God's design is in Genesis 1: equal image bears, equal value, equal dignity. But in Genesis 2, we see there are different roles and different responsibilities. There is one mission and one flesh complementary by design. Difference is not deficiency. Order is not oppression. Women are carrying burdens today that they were never meant to carry, and it is crushing women as a whole. Somewhere women started believing that I have to lead, I have to control, I have to carry everyone, I have to fix everything, I have to be emotionally stronger, and also I have to have a successful career and manage my home. Christian wife, God never gave you that mantle. It's no wonder you're exhausted. I was just having a conversation with Holly yesterday because um her cheer coach was a little frustrated at um perceived lack of priority of the girls of cheer. And I and I told Holly, I said, we want to uphold our commitments. However, we live in a world that is going to daily tell you what your priorities should be. And it is up to you to walk in obedience to the Lord, to honor your commitments, right? To discern what you commit to in the first place, and to do it all from the right order, that you seek first God's kingdom, that your top priority is God and God first. People aren't gonna like that because they want your priorities to be their priorities. But that's not what we do as believers. So let's get back to the counterfeit. The world says independence, autonomy, self-rule, self-expression, self-yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, self-everything, fill in the blank. Protect yourself, never need anyone. But the kingdom says surrender, interdependence, not enter with an e. Interdependence, one word starts with an I, right? That's how we move with our husbands as one flesh, right? Think of two Lego pieces fitted together: covenant, sacrifice, trust, mutual honor, and oneness. Two completely different kingdoms, the counterfeit world kingdom and God's biblical design kingdom. The deeper issue here is that this isn't really about feminism. It's about the question of whose definition of womanhood are you living by? The world couldn't even define a woman a year or two ago, right? Like how ridiculous. And then they tell us how a woman should function. Absolutely not. So I'm gonna ask you a hard question. Have you allowed culture to define marriage, femininity, strength, success, freedom more than scripture? God's design doesn't diminish women, it frees women because every command God gives is for our flourishing, not our oppression. I was just reading about the like great, great, great, I think it was, I don't know how many greats were in there, daughters of Manasseh, granddaughters of Manasseh, and how there were no men and then culture, women who didn't have a husband or fathers taking care of them had nothing. And they came to they come to Caleb or Joshua, I can't remember who they came to. Um, and they were like, hey, God promised us this inheritance. We we want this land, give us our inheritance per the Lord's commands, and they were given it. God cares for women more. Actually, there is no other religion that actually values and honors women like the Lord does. God's design does not diminish women, it elevates men and women on the same level of the same value, but different functions. Okay, all in submission under the dominion of God. The greatest freedom you will ever experience isn't freedom from God's design. That's what culture says, it's freedom found within it. Because the creator has always known how his creation flourishes. Imagine that. The next episode, we're gonna talk about the most misunderstood word in Christian marriage. Buckle up, buttercup, submission. Because I believe we've misunderstood it both inside and outside the church. It's not what the world says, and sadly, it's often not what the church has said either. So I wanna I want to highlight just some different things that I said during this episode that you can pause this and write them down because these are so important. Every counterfeit begins by asking the same question: Did God really say? Culture doesn't have to reject all of scripture to lead us away from God, only the parts that confront us. The question isn't whether culture has discipled you, the question is where culture has discipled you more than scripture. God's design isn't oppressive, it's protective. And let's wrap up with this every command of God is an invitation into flourishing. I will see you on the next episode.
